How does /tp work?

The /tp command teleports a player to the specified coordinates or to another player. Syntax: /tp <who> <x> <y> <z> or /tp <who> <to_whom>. You can find coordinates by pressing F3 in game.

Relative coordinates

The ~ symbol means the current position. ~10 = 10 blocks from current. ~ ~100 ~ — 100 blocks up. ~-50 ~ ~-50 — 50 blocks back along X and Z. This is convenient for quick movement without knowing exact coordinates.

Teleporting to a player

Instead of coordinates you can specify a nick: /tp @s Steve — teleports you to player Steve. Or /tp Steve @s — teleports Steve to you. Argument order: who → where.

Safety

Teleporting into a block can get you stuck or suffocate the player. Teleporting high above the ground will cause fall damage (without elytra). Use /tp @s ~ ~100 ~ with the slow_falling effect to safely survey the area from above.
